I find it interesting and valuable to hear about different people's experiences obtaining Lange service (1) in different countries/regions and (2) from Lange boutiques vs. Lange authorized dealers vs. Lange regional service centers vs. the Lange manufacture in Glashutte.
What I think we learned from this thread is that your experience was indeed a "bad contact": The person at the Paris boutique failed to give you complete and correct information.
So, let us now assume that Lange does not offer a simple polishing for the reasons that others mentioned in this thread. Instead, assume that Lange must remove the movement from the watch, disassemble the case, replace any lost metal, polished the shiny portion of the case, and re-brush the brushed portion if necessary.
How, if at all, does this change your opinion about (1) the cost and (2) the waiting time? Let's return to those two key points, since I believe they were the two main issues in your original post.
[My personal opinion is that the cost is fair, but the 20-week waiting time seems too long for just case polishing or refinishing. I'd rather see 12 weeks.]
