A service center is not the same as a boutique... And you're not buying the seller, you're gambling...

Again, it ultimately depends on your relationship with the boutique.  The boutique is there to serve clients whom are supporting the boutique.  Not to serve clients whom are circumventing the boutique on buying the watches but coming in to get their watches verified.  Now, if you're buying some watches at the boutique and some watches outside of the boutique, that's a gray area - and that depends on your relationship with the boutique.  But if you're habitually just using the boutique to get your watches verified, I'm surprised they haven't had a gracious conversation with you yet about how you're taking advantage of their kindness.

I'm making an assumption based on your last message - I don't like assumptions because I avoid them like the plague...  But here goes: Considering you aren't even confident that this watch is not stolen, you should forego this transaction.  This means you simply can't trust that the seller has inspected this watch thoroughly for operation nor are you confident that the seller of this watch obtained this watch from all the proper channels.  I'm locking this post as it's just simply not clear enough as to what you're trying to do.  Your entire post was too vague.

Also, considering that you've been buying Patek watches without first fully trusting the seller and needing to go to the Patek service center is somewhat alarming.  Please understand the phrase "Buy the seller" which means you need to trust the seller 100%.  I would buy my neighbor's used car/piano because I see he washes it on his driveway, I see the Mercedes dealer picking up the car every year around April presumably to service it (and the Steinway dealer's tuning truck comes around every year in the summer), and I trust him because he's a good fella who's always a very pleasant fella and I don't think he's going to cheat me.  That's buying the seller.  You have not been doing this.  You've been gambling.  Buying a watch, hoping what the seller tells you is accurate, and then you go to Patek's Service facility in NYC to get the watch inspected because you can't trust the seller.  This is perhaps the most important advice anyone can give you.  Trust the seller.  From what I'm reading in your posts, you feel that it's very necessary to get your watches inspected.

For all we know, maybe you're buying these things at rock bottom prices and you are happy to take a risk.  Then take the risk!  Be very happy when it works out, and take your lumps when it doesn't.  At the end of the day - if you know what you're doing, you've only got yourself to blame.  If you don't know what you're doing, you've only got yourself to blame.

Hi everyone, I am considering purchasing a preowned Lange datograph or datograph perpetual. But I don’t have any experience with Lange watches. Could you share some insights with me as to: 1. What are the most important things I need to look at when I exa...

I would test all functions and put on a timer.

I had the same watch once. The date changed to 32 and it had to go in for warranty service. 11mos waiting I had the dealer trade it out for something else.

Good advice, I suggested something similar...

I presume our member would time the watch and so on if he could - although I probably shouldn't make that presumption. But some problems don't become apparent after years - especially if the perpetual calendar's February 28/29 leap year system works or no...

Very good tip. I didn’t know 32 will happen.

Anything can happen!

Can't think inside a box. You've got to think outside of the box.

Common sense is the most important thing... And your post is missing some important details...

Pptraveltime, please read your own post. Then consider this is an Internet forum that doesn't know who you are and doesn't have the pertinent details. And almost all of these are a matter of personal opinion. Especially question #3. If you're in the finan...

Thank you for taking the time to write the long post. You are right. Will take more time to research on the polishing issue. As to the point no3, I didn’t make myself clear. I used to take the preowned Patek watches to Patek NY service center for double c...
