Lange Observation watch, the missing link: Langematik Limited Edition for Wempe

 By: amanico : October 24th, 2010-02:04
From the pocket observation watch, released in the very early XXth Century ( I read somewhere that only 15 pieces were made ... ) : To the Richard Lange, introduced in 2006: There is a watch we didn't often speak about ... The Langematik made for Wempe, i...

Most excellent Nicolas! [nt]

It was my pleasure to see it in the flesh, and to be able to write this post. Best, my friend. Nicolas

Wonderful writing, Nicolas!

I once was thinking about this model, but due to the size and the fact it was automatic stopped me back then. Like you said, I may want to revisit my thoughts and think again.... Thank you much for reminding us of this watch. Very nice looking watch, inde...

Hi Ken,

 By: amanico : October 24th, 2010-23:43
If you're used to the modestly sized 1815 Moonphase, for sure the Langematik for Wempe will be an aesthetical revolution for you. But once you have it on your wrist, the magic is here. As for the automatic movement, I wish all the automatic movements have...

Thoughts and comments? A true beauty.

An excellent review of a precious and rare timepiece. The beauty of simplicity with the exclusivity of a very well balanced timepiece. LOVE it. Thanks for sharing. Vte

Yes, Vicente, an impressive watch.

 By: amanico : October 24th, 2010-23:46
I love the link wit the " Grosse " pocket watch, and this gang reserve, even if I'm not a big fan of this kind of complication on a short power reserve automatic watch. Its link with the brand's History, and its very appealing aesthetic makes it all. Best...

PG version

 By: foversta : October 24th, 2010-04:41
it is the rarest version because it was dedicated to Wempe NY only as you can see on this pic I took at the Manufacture 5 years ago: I think that the most interesting point about this watch is that it is the sole automatic Lange to feature a power reserve...

Daaaaang. :)))

 By: amanico : October 24th, 2010-23:49

Well, to say all, I don't care about rarity.

 By: amanico : October 24th, 2010-23:48
Which is more important for me is its aesthetics, and the idea behind the watch. As you, though, I'm not a big fan of the power reserve indication on an automatic watch with such a short autonomy. As for PG or Platinum, as always, it is a matter of taste....

an interesting watch

Nicolas - Thanks for reviving this one. It is one my my favorites, along with the other two you mention, the LM Anniversary and the RL. One minor note: I believe the original Lange deck watch had a PR of 40 hrs. The dial is very well done. Do you know if ...

Yes, like you, I think this is a great modern version of the " Grosse " P.W.

 By: amanico : October 25th, 2010-02:26
I had another look at the dial, and to me, the indexes look painted on the dial, not engraved. Best, my friend. Nicolas

Always a pleasure to see it..

 By: moc : October 24th, 2010-15:59
undoubtely a Lange watch, oozea quality and craftmanship from every pore. Thank you fot reminding us....... Mo

Too bad Lange decided to make it in LE, Mo...

As it is difficult to find one, but I must admit that I love a lot this reinterpretation of the Marine Deck Chronometer. For the impatient ones, the G.O would make a superb alternative, if only it didn't have the Date... Best, my friend. Nicolas.

You really cannot get over that date eh?

 By: moc : October 25th, 2010-03:50
They had a very good chance with the latest set.....and pt too....c mon Nico your time will come. Some news in my camp soon...... Mo

Yes, I really have a problem with the Date...

 By: amanico : October 25th, 2010-07:27
And it is a pity, as I love a lot this G.O. At the ponit to compromise myself with the Date??? Best, Nicolas.

I know you have always liked this piece Nico :)

 By: samwan : October 25th, 2010-01:32
So you certainly won't mind seeing these pics again... Everything about this watch is perfect - weight, size, metal, dial layout...I recently went to Philadelphia for three weeks and took it with me. Oh...there is one other thing in common...like you...I ...

It is always a pleasure to see these pictures, Sam.

 By: amanico : October 25th, 2010-02:45
Actually, there are not many pics of this watch, posted here. You can imagine how I felt when I fell on one of these! I agree with you, my friend, I'm not very fan of the Double Signature watches, but in this case, it is a good thing. As for the Cabaret p...

LOL....I know...I just sent an email

to the dangerous guy I looooovvvve the black dial on the Cabaret... Good luck. Sam

Being faster than the moderator should be a serious cause of ban.

We should include this new rule in the T.O.S. Best, Nicolas

Are you talking to Me?

 By: fernando : October 25th, 2010-04:22
You are never going to let me off for beating you to the Cabaret, are you Nicolas? Now you also got Sam on it - he's also very dangerous you know. fernando

No, Fernando, I'm talking about you.

 By: amanico : October 25th, 2010-07:17
And it always makes me laught when I think about this story. Best, Nicolas

amazing photos!

Sam, once again your photos............

Are a credit to both the watch and you. Imo a nicely balanced dial.

Since you brought it up...

 By: fernando : October 25th, 2010-04:38
I was offered one in PG 2 years ago in Singapore. It also had a great no. and I thought the size was perfect at the time.Either it was the fact that it was automatic or the PR indicator or Wempe but after thinking long and hard, I declined. It's really bea...

LOL, Fernando, you're a riot, my friend.

 By: amanico : October 25th, 2010-07:21
I win some and I lose some... As I said before, I am not drawn into double signature watches, but in this case, it works as the Wempe signature is on the case back. I can understand the PR indicator and the automatic movement is a problem for some, indeed...

I don't know, I don't know...

By: COUNT DE MONET : October 25th, 2010-05:55
The Richard Lange, while really nice to look at in the ADs' window, never felt really nice so far when I tried it on. To me, the whole design looks (on the wrist !) like looking on a grand fathers clock, those big, long wooden clocks with a pendulum. This...

LOL, Monsieur le Comte.

 By: amanico : October 25th, 2010-07:26
First of all, thanks for having taken the time to prepare an argumented answer. You're absolutely right, it may not be everybody's taste. I would have upgraded it with an 8 Days Movement, it would have made more sense than this short power reserve. But I ...

Dato, Anniversary, and ...

 By: amanico : October 25th, 2010-09:58
Can't tell what is my third one, but I recently go a third Lange, yes... I am afraid you'll have to wait a bit. Best, Nicolas

A 1815 moonphase with a chain and fusee movement ! :-) ! Now I am REALLY curious ...

... as I was recently wondering what watch you would pick next ! Very pleased for you and excited to see a pundits' choice in "real time" ;-) ! Really, really curious now ... Regards Moritz

COOL ! Than I know. :-) ! [nt]

Never noticed it looked so similar to the Lange Observation pocket watch...

 By: patrick_y : October 25th, 2010-08:22
Truly a very classic appearance and look. Thank you for sharing with us your epiphany regarding this beautiful watch. Out of your wish list, this watch and the Cabaret are definitely unique and rare, even among Lange owners. The 1815 Moonphase however, st...

Well, Patrick

 By: amanico : October 25th, 2010-08:39
What mesmerized me with this Wempe Edition is indeed this similar look with the old Observation pocket watch, and I think it is a smart thing Lange inspired themselves from this historical watch. But, as I said, the 1815 Moonphase remains the absolute pri...

We are all scheming...

 By: patrick_y : October 25th, 2010-08:45
...all the time. Your faithfulness to original creations is impressive. I too am madly in love with the 1815 moonphase. Hope to see one on your wrist someday! All the best of luck my friend!

This time may be the RIGHT time, for me.

 By: amanico : October 25th, 2010-09:06
Thanks for your nice wishes, my friend. Nicolas

Nice looking watch....

 By: David Elliott : October 25th, 2010-18:04
But the anniversary edition that you possess with the red 12 is still my favorite! Dave

Well, David, the Anniversary and the " Wempe " don't play on the same ground.

 By: amanico : October 25th, 2010-22:23
One, the Anniversary, plays the card ot Nostalgia and Tradition, with its enamel dial, while the other, the Wempe, which shares the same movememt, is more on the historical register. But you're right, between the 2, I opted for the Anniversary. Now, it is...

I really enjoyed it Nicolas!

 By: i_am_Sam : October 28th, 2010-06:51
This one looks very modern, maybe because of the combination of the dial color and the blue hand plus the power reserve indicator.. The layout on this watch reminds me a lot to the Glashutte's chronometer, only this one I think is nicer because there's no...

A little marvel, indeed, Sam.

 By: amanico : October 28th, 2010-06:58
I agree with you on the fact that the lack of the date is making this watch better looking than the G.O contender. Therefore, it is closer to these Mariner Chronometers, which, of course didn't have the date. Hence my preference for the Lange. Thans for y...

marvelous writeup and exquisite pics!

 By: playtime : October 29th, 2010-09:14
Rose gold yes! I do hope this piece finds a place in your collection--and do let us know if it does.

Well, I have some other plans, playtime.

 By: amanico : October 30th, 2010-06:36
And I have to stay focused on them... You will see, soon. But yes, with a bit of time and a lot of money, it could well be added in my collection. It is, to me, worth it. Best, Nicolas

Fantastic post again Nicolas

 By: DaMctosh : October 29th, 2010-10:21
But alas, you have again succeeded in adding more sleepless nights to the many here. Vlad the Tempter should be your moniker, AKA undercover Inception agent for MJLC and Lange! OK, back to the watch. I must say seeing you present it this way and in platin...

LOL, Damien, my pleasure!

 By: amanico : October 30th, 2010-06:34
Well, I still prefer the Anniversary to this Wempe, but I totally share your analysis on what I think to be a great watch. Maybe it is because it is also signed Wempe that People neglected it? Objectively, though, this is a very nice watch, with many raes...
