Double Split case/lug question-

Jan 25, 2025,02:09 AM

The mighty Double Split is definitely near the top of my wish list. Was looking at some on-line photos and had a question for the more knowledgeable folks here.

Seems like the lugs actually arent flat or even with the back of the watch. The display back appears to protrude out some, beyond the depth of the lugs, such that when worn, it almost looks like the lugs consequently dont sit against one’s wrist, but float a bit above? Strange?

It is a trick that Lange uses on several of their watches to make them look slimmer than they actually are.

Doesn't work so well on the wrist ... The DS is a gorgeous machine, but in my opinion so top heavy that it can't be worn comfortably.

Thanks. Interesting. Didnt realize this was a trick they employed.

Seems a bit odd to me to have the lugs appear to float, and not have the lugs touch one’s wrist….

Yes.. a few Lange models have this problem with the case

Eg datograph.. you can read my post about the flaw in the case design here : www.watchprosite.com

Thank you for sharing your prior thread.

I had missed it. Indeed you had already noted what I was wondering, with the very clear diagrams you shared. Lug position seems a bit strange to me, but I suspect the potential trade off in wearability is the view of that amazing movement. Also from readi...

It was designed to disguise

the actual thickness of the case.. if the lugs were lowered, the bezel part of the case would look really thick

MDT, it's a feature of Lange's chronographs and highly-complicated watches.

I wouldn't call it a flaw. The case recesses into your wrist and appears thinner than it is whilst you are wearing it. Meanwhile, the lugs spring from the top of the case and do not appear too deep. I'm used to it and love it: German engineering!

works well in my experience

... and certainly preferable to have an even larger PT case. It does need some counterbalance so I wear my DS with a PT deployant to create it. Best Andreas

+1 here.

It is to create a illusion, and DS in platinum must be worn with a deployant.

deployant

My dato original sits the same way. A moot point. It is not top heavy with a butterfly clasp deployant. Could even be ss. The clasp on the bottom of your wrist will support the weight when you turn your wrist and the watch leans. Don't feel my watch on at...
