For example, 3646 Types A through C were worn by Mussolini's Fascists forces who wore them as part of their kit they used to sink Allied shipping, while the aforementioned 3646 Types D through G were confiscated by the Nazis and worn by their forces.
I personally can appreciate the watches' technical and historical background (that's what makes them of interest and collectible) but I can do so without glorifying their users. These men can be respected for fighting for their own countries, but they are not heroes from my perspective.
Just like there are collectors of WWII era Hanhart and Glashutte (Tutima) Luftwaffe chronographs and the original B-Uhr watches from A. Lange & Sohne, IWC, Laco, Stowa, and Wempe there are also modern recreations of most of these watches. I think we can put Panerai watches in the same historical and collector frame of reference.
