Questions for the Village.... What is your favorite color and where did you find it ?

Feb 14, 2012,06:15 AM

Hello everyone....

I have been having a phone conversation with a couple of the forum regulars over the last week or so.  One of the topics of conversation was Gold Omegas...

What color gold are you most attracted to ?   There is Yellow , White, Rose  and have even see Green on occasion ( not Omega ).

Also does anyone happen to know what white gold formula was used by Omega case makers in the 1950s like on the white gold connies ?   Or how about in the 1960s with the C-shaped connies ?

As a collector you collect what you can find and before the use of the internet in finding watches...  A lonely Omega collector in the US would find a lot of yellow gold ( mostly 14k) and US made cases.
I personally prefer Swiss made cases , and when I was first collecting stayed away from gold case examples.   As I used to travel for work I was able to find " interesting" watches along the way.

But the internet really helped in opening the flood gates...

I do have a few Omega Pink gold watches (Swiss made cases)  some in 18k others in 14k.    One or two was found in the USA and a few in Italy !

So where have you found some of your odd colored watches ?

One last thing that always amazes me that every gold watch I hold in my hands escaped the "melting pots" of the 70s and now !   Also what do you do if you have to scrap a watch?

Good hunting

Hi Bill, my favorite is clearly ROSE or PINK, especially in the 14K version as this alloy has a much richer (deeper) rose tone... The sources are very different, found also some nice watches on trader shows, but you ought to know the dealers that they kee...

I'd have to say Rose Gold for me.......

I never thought I'd like RG much until I acquired an RG watch - but it is so much more uncommon than yellow. As for white gold - well I know many like it and it is the fashion now but it does nothing for me as it looks just like stainless steel. A Rollie ...

I always have a crave for Rose gold case watches. I find the color so pleasant to look at than the Yellow. Yellow is boring. It RG matches nicely with either silver or black dials. Thanks. John

ALL OF THEM I LIKE..!

I like rose gold, whitegold, yellow gold and gold/steel variants as well. It depends on the hosting/dial/casematerial combination if the watch makes me want it. The diversity is what I am after Best Hans

Rose gold for me, (with the yellow for comparison):

Especially with the very hard to find matching PG bracelet. Can't recall where I bought the watch, but the bracelet is an eBay purchase that I scavenged off another watch, and it matches perfectly ....

i've never owned a white gold watch. if i could find one i think i would love it. i find yellow gold a bit blingy, but within my narrow collecting theme i find that is what is on offer. 9ct gold is good with me as its copper content gives it a rose gold t...

Pink or rose is too attractive, for my comfort

I have always loved the the beauty of pink or rose gold Constellations, against one in yellow gold. The former is not common and as such, more expensive than those yellow gold ones, everything being equal. In view of the fact, I have to work till the earl...

Warm color

I have no real preference between Yellow or Rose, but what I like in Gold is the warm tone. For the case... and even for the dial. Concerning the case, I have a strong preference for 18k cases. But they can be Swiss made (for example the 30t2rg and the co...
