Comparing Jumbo and Mini-Jumbo
Jan 12, 2021,09:51 AM
39mm 15202 in steel and 36mm 14700 in gold, aka the Mini-Jumbo.
While searching for a gold Royal Oak with grey dial, it was either vintage Jumbos and Jubilees which are quite expensive now, or the 36mm mid-size such as the 14790. The 14790 felt a bit small on my wrist. The 14886 felt even smaller since its bezel is thicker and dial is smaller than the 14790. So the ideal one turned out to be the 14700, which has a thinner bezel and larger dial than the 14790. Its dial happens to be 28mm compared to the Jumbo's 29mm, so visually its only a little bit smaller than the Jumbo. Another nice feature is the 14700 is a tiny bit thinner than the other mid-size Royal Oaks, at 7mm. Even thinner than the modern Jumbo and more like the original 5402. Hopefully, AP releases more yellow gold Royal Oaks in the future with grey dials as I just love this combination.
