An AP Quartz for the wife? Or stay away?

Hi AP enthusiasts.

my wifes birthday is coming up and I want to get her something special. Of course shes not such a watch nut as me but she might appreciate it

She likes Quartz because she hates setting the time never even adjusts the date on her other watches.

My idea is a vintage AP 6008SA two tone 30mm Quartz Royal Oak.

My question is how reliable are the quartz movements and how high are the servicing costs? But especially the how high are the costs of changing the battery as I heard horror stories about the change as the whole case has to be taken apart. I dont want to pay hundreds and wait weeks to get the battery changed.

What do you think do it or stay away and get her the cartier love bracelet smile

thank you for your honest input

Never thought about the battery change problem but I initially thought there should be no problem.

I think it honestly boils down to whether or not you have a great watchmaker that you trust, there are things that could go wrong with battery changes and although not the best example

I'll say that when I had my Aunt's fashion watch's battery changed, the individual that handled it inserted the wrong battery inside, the battery leaked and that was goodbye for the watch, the dealer I went to was a family friend and he replaced her timep...

The gaskets are the problem with Royal Oak

Taking the case apart is no problem. My two-tone automatic needed to be cleaned, and we couldn’t get a new gasket - even an aftermarket price was in the $200 range if I remember correctly. So I used the old one with a tiny wash of gasket sealer. Not the “...

New collection and quartz. Bought it for my wife and it looks incredible.

I’ve done a lot of battery changes officially done by Cartier itself.

I find the service reasonable and quick though simple battery replacement by a 3rd party should even be cheaper and faster.

I finally bought a quartz RO for my Wife (not vintage)
