An AP Quartz for the wife? Or stay away?
Jul 17, 2018,15:06 PM
Hi AP enthusiasts.
my wifes birthday is coming up and I want to get her something special. Of course shes not such a watch nut as me but she might appreciate it
She likes Quartz because she hates setting the time never even adjusts the date on her other watches.
My idea is a vintage AP 6008SA two tone 30mm Quartz Royal Oak.
My question is how reliable are the quartz movements and how high are the servicing costs? But especially the how high are the costs of changing the battery as I heard horror stories about the change as the whole case has to be taken apart. I dont want to pay hundreds and wait weeks to get the battery changed.
What do you think do it or stay away and get her the cartier love bracelet
thank you for your honest input

Taking the case apart is no problem. My two-tone automatic needed to be cleaned, and we couldn’t get a new gasket - even an aftermarket price was in the $200 range if I remember correctly. So I used the old one with a tiny wash of gasket sealer. Not the “...

My wife is starting to move towards the mechanical pieces now but she for quartz, she has been quite happy with the PP twenty-four and her Parmigiani.
