. . . (actually not, but you get the idea) my pal Scott, who occasionally posts here, was on holiday in New Orleans. Apparently the oldest tavern in the Western Hemisphere, Lafitte's Blacksmith Shop . . .

. . . was the only establishment in America that served absinthe. (It was illegal at the time, but maybe Lafitte's was grandfathered in as they've been around since the early 19th century.)
After pounding back a few, the bartender asks Scott if he's ever had absinthe. Of course, Scott says no, but he's game for anything. The bartender says, "I'll bet you can't down a shot of the stuff." "Game on!"
Hours later, he remembered who he was.

PS - Just read the Wikipedia entry about Lafitte's. It's a gay bar. I'm sure Scott had no idea.
