Baselworld 2012 : Russian watchmaker Konstantin Chaykin Debut

Feb 06, 2012,23:40 PM

A debut of the latest inventions of the famous Russian watchmaker Konstantin Chaykin will take place at the exhibition BaselWorld 2012 (8-15th March, Basel).

In the run-up to this significant event Konstantin Chaykin hurries to announce a creation of a new mechanical enigma watch – Mystery.

The new creation of the Russian master represents a watch with a completely transparent dial and a pair of hands in the center mysteriously suspended in the empty space of the gold case.

Driven by an invisible force, they duly show the current time. The miniature movement of the watch is fully hidden under the bezel of the case decorated with applied Roman numerals and a sophisticated aperture of the moon phase indicator.

It is not easy to penetrate into the mystery of the mechanical movement, but the watchmaker is ready to disclose it during the exhibition.

Apart from the debut of the Mystery collection, Konstantin Chaykin will present a modified version of its creation “Moonwalker Prime”: now the movement of the Moonwalker is placed inside the gold case; the minute hand has become retrograde; the movement itself is equipped with a patented device – constant Moon phase corrector, and the Moon in this new model is represented with a large ocean pearl.

The sapphire glass which virtually reveals the entire movement imparts an unusual and sophisticated look to the gold Moonwalker, which specifically contrasts with the brutality of its Damascus steel predecessor.

Might be interesting to see the new mystery watch in a more elegant case/dial combo, but I already like this version -- and the new version of his original watch is far superior, in my view. Thanks for sharing! Best, Gary G

Is this have an equation of time indicator plus day night indicator In this setting we see hour and night overlapping? Very interesting. Thanks for clarifying.

I think ..

 By: Kong : February 7th, 2012-19:06
Hi 4Js I think it is a 24-hour retrograde indicator only. From the picture, it is indicating 11:35am... the Crescent -pointer is in between the 11th and 12th hour. Once reaches 12:00, the Crescent-retrograde-Indicator should snap back below the '0' hour-m...

that transparent dial is just stunning! [nt]

I like the way he has placed the movement in the Mistery, and with a moonphase indicator included, cool. Thanks, Vte

will be interesting to see how he hides the plantary gearing of the hour & minute discs. Or he is using another approach. Kong

Kong, Any idea whether it is a newly constructed movement? It looks like the dial is covered by a layer which has transparent effect. Regards Ling

A nice modern interpretation of the Armand Schwob movement from the late 1880's I like these mysterious watches a lot when they are on display (when on the wrist, the effect of wrist hair showing through the clear dial sometimes loses the elegance of the ...

Thanks Clavi ...

for the Armand Schwob movement pic. The re-intepretation with a moonphase added is pretty good with such tight space constraint. Kong
