Indeed! I love the simplicity and straightforwardness of the V60. It works every time. Have a good one too! [nt]

Coffee Thread: The V60/Melitta/Chemex Pour-overs

If you are a coffee-lover, if you like technically difficult tasks, and if you like control, maybe you'd enjoy this method. Which method produces a smooth-tasting brew, lessening the potential bitterness of the beans? The difference in taste is stark - po...

thanks Monopole, the 1:15 ratio is quite popular

1g coffee : 15g water (just a guideline) I usually play around with the ratio a lot, depending on whether I need a stronger hit of caffeine, or if the beans used are a lighter roast or darker roast. For example, if we have a strong Liberico coffee, we can...

More sizzle we need in our coffee lives, cuz I found my life to be quite boring and meaningless sometimes.

Especially during the pandemic lock down periods.

Gives me more time to try different coffees and brew methods that otherwise I don't typically have the time for.

Will do, thanks.

Watch some of the videos by James Hoffman on YouTube, they are pretty good.

Over the years, I've tried many ways to make coffee and have enjoyed doing so, even if the results weren't always good. A few years ago, by chance, I found my best method. It goes like this:

Fill the kettle with water and boil. (Any kettle will do, with - where's it's drinkable - tap water.) Warm a 13-centimetre/5-inch cafetiere & plunger with boiling water and empty. (The best cafetiere I've found comes from 'Waitrose'.) Put in 2 flat measur...

I believe you

Yes the method you are using is very similar to the Turkish brewing method. It will extract the boldest flavours and most caffeine out of the beans. Good to hear from you, and thank you for spending the time to write back. Cheers and have a good day ahead...

I have a pour-over, a regular coffee maker, ...

...and a French press. If I had to save only one from a fire it would be the French Press. The key for me is always grinding the beans fresh.

Chemex every morning in my house!

But I've got to say: I find it more forgiving than you describe here. The V60 has struck me as much more finicky.

Ah, a pour-over lover u are

It is almost ritualistic isn’t it? I think your technique must have been refined over many years of the same morning routine. Do you drink your coffee with milk?

Wow, they took coffee passion to a great level

I like the cards describing the notes for each of the coffee you drank today. It tells a story and brings about more appreciation to the different beans/regions. I miss Singapore, and have not come back for 2 years. I will be back as soon as the virus sea...

I have a whole drawer of coffee devices - chemex metal and paper filter, stove-top espresso, french presses (glass and ceramic), and I've landed on pour over and specifically the single cup Blue Bottle pour over. Of all the single cup pour overs out there...

Wow, this is nice

By: Cookies : August 10th, 2020-19:12
I like the ridges of the bluetop pour-over too. It must be very fun to use this. Wish you a great day Fastwong

After your post I might have to try the Hario! I haven't bought a new coffee device in like a month sooo.... πŸ˜‚

The wide size and flat bottom filters of the Blue bottle device make it more forgiving but maybe it's time to go back to a cone filter... Thanks for the inspiration! I have clearly gotten lazy with my coffee game.

In holidays I use my Bialetti Moka. Very easy to use, good outcome.

For home use I have a Pavoni europiccola. Not easy to handle. For the coffee I often use what I found on my trips. For example from Malawi or PNG.

Indeed! You know the good life

The V60 is my favourite too and if I am not late in the morning, I’d make a big flask of coffee with this method. I suspect the V60 is the habit of very productive and efficient people - it means having to wake up with sufficient time to do as planned, mu...
