If I may, I would like to add a couple of points...
Before making a shot, I try to determine if the subject and the subsequent picture will stand on its own merits. Will the picture appeal to an objective audience or are there subjective elements that only speaks to me? (ie. kittens and babies😴😉)
Shared perception of quality is a difficult one. I find that if you try to define what quality is, you will often see that many great images challenge your definition.
Post processing, for both analog and digital, is also about overcoming technical inadequacies in your equipment. For example, dodging and burning has always been done to enhance dynamic range.
Any which way, your post made me want to pick up my camera.
