When I took my 5980 to paris boutique for service it took short for three months actually closer to two months

It was a great service turn around
But I had to pay €€€ for the service since out of warranty but was worth it

Why don't you take your watch to Geneva Salon? They are reasonable people and my experience is that servicing happens faster through Salons. Best, Kari
Hi Kari I did bring it at the Patek boutique in Zürich ...

where I bought it from. This is not that far from Geneva Well the date had an issue from the very beginning but didn't bother me as much but now the watch just remains behind a few hours. I realised it on a meeting ...I did miss the next one !!
I think the main issue is
By: dr.kol : June 27th, 2017-07:58
that many AD also do the servicing. It's part of their business concept. According to my experience the attitude of the Salons is different. The Pated "Boutique" in Zurich is just an AD in the end. Best, Kari
That's never nice to experience indeed

A few remarks from your post Christian. I got my 5712 from the Parisian Salon with the free 3-year-old servicing (given with any new watch), hence, even though the warranty is passed, any problem would have been solved. I had my watch serviced that way an...
Hi Mark..I still like the Nautilus very much...
By: christianch : June 26th, 2017-22:50
but I am in Zürich so very close to Geneva. Don't think the location is the issue here. The issue is not power reserve (sorry if I wasn't more specific) the watch simply lost 1 hour or 2 then it stopped completely. So winding (by hand or any other means) ...
Thanks for the further details Christian

I understand better your case now. It seems that there are more problems on you watch than it should. As I said, I've been well taken care of by the Parisian Salon. I imagine (just a guess) that they can have a specific power for their clients (which you ...
Wonderful piece you got so firstly huge congratulations!
By: keks : June 27th, 2017-01:49
Regret to read about your experience. Not a pleasant one and agree that in these circumstances priority should be placed on client who have just purchased a piece that happened to pass Quality control with a fault. Especially since you are already in Swit...
mmmmm....that sucks. Hope you will get it back asap.

the date of my 5980/1A-011 broke down a week ago (also). It is stuck between 2 dates (so to speak). It always had issues btw since I owned it (since 2013) new, but I never got round sending it in because I always got it to work properly by winding (settin...
Long wait is not unique to Patek
By: Poky : June 26th, 2017-16:05
But I agree; Patek's experience should be different to other brands or at least that is what they want you to believe before making the purchase- the 10 values that is advertised everywhere. Let's hope you get it repaired it quicker with a good result the...
Fair points, and I understand the frustration but...

... please do not give up this watch. It is absolutely stunning (way more than your picture shows, as you know it is almost impossible to do justice to this watch in photos). 6 to 8 months sound like an eternity but you will be happy after seeing it worki...
thank you Ed I don't give up on the watch
By: christianch : June 26th, 2017-22:56
but obviously I wouldn't consider another one from Patek given the very high servicing costs and long time to get the watch back. Watches are about reliability to me so if you can't produce reliable watches or service them it is mostly a marketing illusio...
Frustrating, to say the least...
By: Bengoshi76 : June 26th, 2017-22:44
Sorry to hear about your issue. So far (fingers crossed), my 3 PPs hat no issues and I guess it is pure luck nowadays. I did however had an issue with my then 3 months old AP15202 that a huge dust on the dial, which I have no clue how it did pass the QC. ...
Interesting.
By: nafetS : June 26th, 2017-22:55
I've had a problem with the date change of my 15202 during warranty and it took AP 3 1/2 weeks until i got it back, which is alright i think. (It's the only AP i bought new and it's been at a normal dealer, no boutique)
Dear Christian
By: Alkiro1 : June 26th, 2017-23:11
Why you don't want to bring it to a good watchmaker? This model is à Patek but the mouvement is simple with no complication. A good watchmaker should be able to easily detect the problem and repair it. The cost should be less expensive and quicker than a ...
thank you for the idea Alkiro
By: christianch : June 26th, 2017-23:41
but I did bring it where I bought it that is a Patek boutique. They also service some watches internally but they told me that for Nautilus they have to send all to Geneva. I don't really know other watchmakers and for this high end pieces I would only br...
well not so much fun for me :)
By: christianch : June 27th, 2017-13:31
I still think that 2 years is a very short amount of time ...and setting the high price aside 6-8 months is just showing that they can't efficiently service their own watches, hence the poor warranty.
thank you Edward..is not a major drama or anything
By: christianch : June 27th, 2017-13:41
but I think it might be useful to know that not everything is what it seems from the outside, exclusivity etc. doesn't translate to reliability and reasonable servicing time or a fair warranty.
Not good....
By: Baron - Mr Red : June 27th, 2017-02:49
......having said that, just about every single manufacturer that produces in this type of volume will have a similar problem. Where one can differentiate is by how often it happens and by what the manufacturer does to redeem the situation. Cost is anothe...
my impressions....drawn from experience
By: Baron - Mr Red : June 27th, 2017-04:07
Not all manufacturers devote the same attention. As you point out, some will address specific issues on a movement without addressing a full service. But Patek do not do that. If a watch comes in, it gets a total and thorough service. Not all manufacturer...
You may have been lucky
By: Poky : June 27th, 2017-04:38
My experience has been quite different to yours (3 other friends also have had the same experience as me). I don't think they are quite as diligent and meticulous as they would like to protray themselves. Having said that, they do come through at the end ...

By: Baron - Mr Red : June 27th, 2017-04:41
.....it could well be that "luck of the draw" thing. But I certainly cannot complain from my own experiences.
thank you for your comprehensive post Joe!
By: christianch : June 27th, 2017-13:34
I do agree that one can't complain too much about the costs that seems to be similar among manufacturer but since the luxury market is a very competitive one I can't help to think that Rolex warranty is much better. Reliability is also a factor. Beside th...
i do sympathise....
By: Baron - Mr Red : June 27th, 2017-23:41
.....i think thereis clearly some luck of the draw factor involved. I can only talk of my own experience and that has genuinely been fantastic. Whereas with other manufacturers, it has generally been very poor. I do agree with you that longer warranties a...
Five year warranties
By: watch-er : June 27th, 2017-11:48
are fairly new to the watch industry. I think just a brands offer them. Eventually they all will. Your problem is not unique but as Mark says PP is fixing their service time issues. Hopefully, they will extend you some accommodation but the watch is in th...
so why is 3 years when is not even covered on the warranty?
By: christianch : June 27th, 2017-13:39
the answer is obvious. I have other watches and never had to service them like that. New or not a longer warranty is now a reality and patek has to adapt. If they trust their product they should extend the warranty.
