Patek Philippe Nautilus 5711/1A-011 issues ? Prepare for a long wait and a big bill..so may is worth to know :)

Jun 26, 2017,14:39 PM

Just some information about my Patek Philippe Nautilus 5711/1A-011.. bought the watch in July 2013 and I did wear it may be 60 days or probably less.
Recently I have noticed that the watch was behind ..like half an hour or more. Essentially it wasn't keeping the charge anymore.  It also suffered (from as long as I can recall)
from the date window alignment issue which is well know for this model.

Well now the waiting time for a service is 6 to 8 months. A simple repair of what is wrong is not possible and the price well...is truly shocking for something that seems to be fairly simple.

Now all mechanical watches can have issues but why does Patek offer only 2 years of warranty (which is not a lot for someone with many watches) and not 5 as Rolex ?
I think it is obviously because they do not trust in their product as much as Rolex does OR simply want to make more money with the service.

Forgetting the money for a second six to eight months waiting time is just crazy.  So since this model and the more famous blue one have such a long wait list remember that when
you finally get on top and get it ...it might not be what you think AND if it gets broken outside the warranty you have to prepare for a long wait and a heavy bill.

I think that in the future I will not trust again any manufacturer with such a limit warranty or that has no capacity to service its watches within a reasonable amount of time. After this I won't be getting any
Patek anytime soon...

Christian

Why don't you take your watch to Geneva Salon? They are reasonable people and my experience is that servicing happens faster through Salons. Best, Kari

Hi Kari I did bring it at the Patek boutique in Zürich ...

 By: christianch : June 26th, 2017-22:42
where I bought it from. This is not that far from Geneva Well the date had an issue from the very beginning but didn't bother me as much but now the watch just remains behind a few hours. I realised it on a meeting ...I did miss the next one !!

I think the main issue is

 By: dr.kol : June 27th, 2017-07:58
that many AD also do the servicing. It's part of their business concept. According to my experience the attitude of the Salons is different. The Pated "Boutique" in Zurich is just an AD in the end. Best, Kari

well it is really a boutique and I think the first that patek did in partnership with Beyer :)

 By: christianch : June 27th, 2017-13:58
but they will send this to Geneva so I don't think that going to the Salon in Geneva would have changed a thing....I am not a salon client so they would have probably taken even more time!

No arguments - it's a matter of definition.

 By: dr.kol : June 27th, 2017-15:31
As far as I know, Pated is not financially involved with that boutique. Best, Kari

That's never nice to experience indeed

A few remarks from your post Christian. I got my 5712 from the Parisian Salon with the free 3-year-old servicing (given with any new watch), hence, even though the warranty is passed, any problem would have been solved. I had my watch serviced that way an...

Hi Mark..I still like the Nautilus very much...

 By: christianch : June 26th, 2017-22:50
but I am in Zürich so very close to Geneva. Don't think the location is the issue here. The issue is not power reserve (sorry if I wasn't more specific) the watch simply lost 1 hour or 2 then it stopped completely. So winding (by hand or any other means) ...

Thanks for the further details Christian

By: Mark in Paris : June 27th, 2017-03:13
I understand better your case now. It seems that there are more problems on you watch than it should. As I said, I've been well taken care of by the Parisian Salon. I imagine (just a guess) that they can have a specific power for their clients (which you ...

Wonderful piece you got so firstly huge congratulations!

Regret to read about your experience. Not a pleasant one and agree that in these circumstances priority should be placed on client who have just purchased a piece that happened to pass Quality control with a fault. Especially since you are already in Swit...

mmmmm....that sucks. Hope you will get it back asap.

the date of my 5980/1A-011 broke down a week ago (also). It is stuck between 2 dates (so to speak). It always had issues btw since I owned it (since 2013) new, but I never got round sending it in because I always got it to work properly by winding (settin...

sorry to hear that Arie...

 By: christianch : June 26th, 2017-22:51
but the date issue seems so common yet so annoying.

No. Nico posted first, so I got bitten by him.😁

After all, we all share the same good wishes to Christian and his watch, don't we? 😊

Great minds think alike👍🏻 [nt]

Long wait is not unique to Patek

 By: Poky : June 26th, 2017-16:05
But I agree; Patek's experience should be different to other brands or at least that is what they want you to believe before making the purchase- the 10 values that is advertised everywhere. Let's hope you get it repaired it quicker with a good result the...

well we can all guess very well why the warranty is shorter

 By: christianch : June 26th, 2017-22:53
they cannot warranty for a longer period of time as they know it might break and of course they want to make a profit from it.

Sorry to hear that, my family has 2 white 5711s and haven't heard any issues...

 By: Clueless_Collector : June 26th, 2017-16:10
maybe go to the Salon and explain how rarely you are wearing this since you have a vast collection and maybe count this as a warranty issue? Hope it will resolve soon. Rgds Raymond

thank you Raymond...I bought several pieces from the boutique

 By: christianch : June 26th, 2017-22:56
but obviously I wouldn't consider another one from Patek given the very high servicing costs and long time to get the watch back. Watches are about reliability to me so if you can't produce reliable watches or service them it is mostly a marketing illusio...

Patek has always give a 2 year warranty so it has nothing to do with trusting their product.

 By: Patekphilippecollector : June 26th, 2017-16:35
What has happened is other manufacturers have extended theirs leave PP a bit in the dust. I do think they should extend it as well

2 years for a new watch, but only 1 year on the service warranty.

 By: anonymous09 : June 26th, 2017-17:03
I thought it was 2 years too, like AP and Rolex, but apparently not.

well it has to do with trust..OR making more money :)

 By: christianch : June 26th, 2017-22:57
If you know that your watch is not likely to break in 5 years why not give a longer warranty ?

Hope this turns out better for you, than expected. I can understand you dissatisfaction.

There's often nothing more unpleasant, than a bad service. Especially, if it's such an expensive product. I'm not familiar with service practices in the watch industry, but in the automobile industry I've made the experience, that the manufacturers someti...

Frustrating, to say the least...

Sorry to hear about your issue. So far (fingers crossed), my 3 PPs hat no issues and I guess it is pure luck nowadays. I did however had an issue with my then 3 months old AP15202 that a huge dust on the dial, which I have no clue how it did pass the QC. ...

Interesting.

 By: nafetS : June 26th, 2017-22:55
I've had a problem with the date change of my 15202 during warranty and it took AP 3 1/2 weeks until i got it back, which is alright i think. (It's the only AP i bought new and it's been at a normal dealer, no boutique)

had some issue with AP too and I understand...

I reved got as upset to sell watches so overall lucky but still very frustrating....

well if we talk about cars it is more fair...just bought a new car this year from Mercedes and got 8 years warranty OR 100,000 KM

 By: christianch : June 26th, 2017-22:58
whichever come first. In watches there is no KM of course and two years is not such a long time!

thank you Alkiro...left the watch to the Patek boutique already

so too late now ..may be next time LOL

This is the fun part of a luxury goods ownership....

 By: watercolors : June 27th, 2017-02:39
you need to fix it sometime. Glad you love your watch Christian, and I hope it will be fixed for you sometime soon. Best Regards Edward

well not so much fun for me :)

 By: christianch : June 27th, 2017-13:31
I still think that 2 years is a very short amount of time ...and setting the high price aside 6-8 months is just showing that they can't efficiently service their own watches, hence the poor warranty.

thank you Edward..is not a major drama or anything

 By: christianch : June 27th, 2017-13:41
but I think it might be useful to know that not everything is what it seems from the outside, exclusivity etc. doesn't translate to reliability and reasonable servicing time or a fair warranty.

When I took my 5980 to paris boutique for service it took short for three months actually closer to two months

By: Mohannad (aka Riddler) : June 27th, 2017-02:41
It was a great service turn around But I had to pay €€€ for the service since out of warranty but was worth it

Not good....

I don’t know where you’re drawing your impressions from, but it’s impossible to service a watch without disassembling it.

 By: anonymous09 : June 27th, 2017-03:46
Sure, a simple fix could be done with the movement in situ, depending on what the issue was and requirement to rectify it, but that’s not a service. A service involves removing the movement from the case, stripping it down completely and assessing the par...

my impressions....drawn from experience

 By: Baron - Mr Red : June 27th, 2017-04:07
Not all manufacturers devote the same attention. As you point out, some will address specific issues on a movement without addressing a full service. But Patek do not do that. If a watch comes in, it gets a total and thorough service. Not all manufacturer...

If you don't like it you can always sell it

 By: Siamcollector : June 27th, 2017-05:21
am pretty sure you can resell the watch for the retail price or higher.

I know I can but is beside the point ...

 By: christianch : June 27th, 2017-13:22
I do like the watch. I don't like the defects, high costs to service and very long repair time.

Five year warranties

so why is 3 years when is not even covered on the warranty?

 By: christianch : June 27th, 2017-13:39
the answer is obvious. I have other watches and never had to service them like that. New or not a longer warranty is now a reality and patek has to adapt. If they trust their product they should extend the warranty.
