Patek Philippe 5131P - The "Ice King" is born
By: Baron - Mr Red : March 27th, 2017-06:18
The 5131P marks the conclusion of the four metal assemblage. Over the last 8-9 years we have seen white, yellow and rose gold. Basel saw the release of the platinum version. Enamel dial world times are very special pieces for Patek Philippe. They have a r...
You old romantic you.
By: Miles_151 : March 27th, 2017-06:35
You\'ve just made love to a 5131p with words. I get what you say Joe and think it will be a classic for sure but a classic I could strap on to my wrist and make my heart skip each time I looked at it???? Not so sure. I think with a beautiful light grey/ w...
I needed to understand it....
By: Baron - Mr Red : March 27th, 2017-06:40
.....but i see it as pushing the envelope on the 5131 reference. And for that reason, I fell for it.
I guess they try.

The problem is that within 1,000 clients there are 999 different opinions. Best Kari
Lovely review Baron!
By: sham1 : March 27th, 2017-07:22
But I tried this watch on yesterday and its weight suggests it is only wearable occasionally. On a long haul flight, it might no be the best option as it might exceed the hand baggage weight limit! Lovely dial, I really like the snow on it
Couldn't agree more.
By: Mr. M : March 27th, 2017-07:52
On this one the platinum bracelet seems to be a perfect match for the dial. A great surprise.
To me the issue with the bracelet is the weight
By: alphabeta81 : March 27th, 2017-07:57
Plain and simple, platinum watches with platinum braces are like strapping a brick to your wrist. I understand the poetic reason for including the bracelet and you expand on that nicely. So I like it in theory. When it comes to the reality however, not gi...
I understand the weight issue.....
By: Baron - Mr Red : March 27th, 2017-08:04
.....but again I think that is all a part of the extreme nature of the design. I think it is an edge that is pushed. Truly, I get the fact that it is heavy...very heavy. But I am not sure that detracts from the concept of what the watch actually is...in f...
If you could only have one 5131 would it be this one???
By: Miles_151 : March 27th, 2017-08:32
Simple With the exception of 5970\'s and 5070\'s i have always been very strict with my collection and have never had two watches with the same model number. Now at times this has been difficult but that\'s what worked for me. So no same Rolex or Patek mo...
Another issue is -- the bracelet itself
By: alphabeta81 : March 27th, 2017-08:47
It is simply not the same level of artistry and flair that this watch deserves. See the old 5107g bracelet design, would have been perfect here. Instead they use the same rice bracelet they put on the 5146 bracelet for example. This combo -- uninspiring b...
I was supposed to write my post tonight
By: dr.kol : March 27th, 2017-09:22
but why to bother? You said it all. During the winters I spend a lot of time in the arctic - it is my home or at least one of those. Anyhow, my heart is always in Lapland and the new 5131P is full of the spirit of the arctic part of the world. I did not l...
Joe, you convinced me of two things.
By: amanico : March 27th, 2017-09:35
1/ The watch is made for you. Obviously, you are in love with that 5131P, and that is so good to see you feel so. 2/ This watch is not made for me. I totally get your point about the bracelet, you made it with a lot of eloquence I must say. Still, I wonde...
I think that, especially when Patek is considered,
By: Mark in Paris : March 27th, 2017-09:54
people would like to see what they want. This is natural but, aside from the fact it would be difficult to satisfy everyone, I don't think the way to success is to follow what people want but what they think their future offer should be. You made a clear ...
A great post, and excellent replies too.
By: Chimaera : March 27th, 2017-11:27
My particular chuckle is the irony that the two places on earth where time-zones don\'t matter are....the poles. Beyond that, and fully appreciate the aesthetics, it is a bit like a pilot watch made of WG - this is a "travel" watch, but the bracelet just ...
I was taken by it instantly and said straight away: stunning piece
By: COUNT DE MONET : March 27th, 2017-12:03
I also fo find the bracelet fitting and generally a fitting bracelet to all Pateks. Nico finds it "silly", but I diseagree strongly. The North Pole view is a first and firsts are always a good sogn for collectibility. I like if, knowing that it will be ou...
Strange.....
By: Baron - Mr Red : March 27th, 2017-12:32
I feel that it is precisely because it is out of the ordinary that it\'s not immediately understood and accepted. Outdated would be one of the last adjectives that would come to my mind. Vive la difference.
In fact we are discussing about subjective point of views
By: Mark in Paris : March 29th, 2017-07:24
The thing is that I think I understand Nicolas as the bracelet is similar in design to the ones we knew in France in the 1980's. The problem is that this style hasn't aged well where we are. However, people from different regions, even still from western ...

Cloisonne pieces are remarkable
By: Mean Solar Time : April 23rd, 2017-20:06
It's literally impossible to appreciate the beauty of the cloisonné dials from the artist renderings on the website. Even to the naked eye it's tough to absorb how incredible the artwork truly is. Really, ... you have to see it with a magnifying glass. Th...

Truly understand your points Baron and thank you for the lovely read. To me, the sum of all the 'parts' for the 5131P, i.e. the choice of showcasing the north pole to a world time dial, the dial design itself, the metal, the bracelet et cetera; adds to th...

......we all see watches in a unique perspective. Indeed, each watch has a specifically unique resonance with its specific owner. For me, I am in harmony with the 5131P. Niciolas is not.... but that is also right for him. He did say, however, that on a st...
Perfection!
By: Mean Solar Time : April 9th, 2017-13:23
Thank you for the review. In my opinion the bracelet is absolutely necessary to cap-off the collection of metals. It provides an extra degree of distinction that the platinum version of the reference deserves.
