auction purchases
May 16, 2017,05:20 AM
I have purchased 100's of high end watches at auction. BUYER BEWARE!! All good advice give here.
I do try to inspect each watch I bid on, if possible. Although when I do I take my phone and use the camera (with zoom) to inspect the case, dial, movement. No worries if you are not there, just have high def photo of each element.
Biggest problem will be hidden problems with the movement, and problems you miss on inspection. Half of the watches I buy have some type of service need. Most if not all have never been serviced. So make sure you are prepared for a costly service.
Import is a real problem. I live in the USA and I am not able to import endangered species straps (croc, alligator, lizard...) So also consider your watch may lose a $500 strap in the transaction. I NEVER will ship USPS into the USA due to delay in customs. DHL, FEDex, UPS ONLY.
Buy ONLY what you can live with and love.
