With average taste. My collection includes Blancpain Flyback, GO Senator Navigator, Nomos Tangomat, Omega Co-Axial DeVille and sundry vintages such as an Universal Polerouter. I have these watch because I like them, they are my taste, they are interesting.
There are also watches I do not like, watches I find distasteful, these include Panerais, various Rolex models, AP Royal Oak Offshore, Hublot Big Bang.
Many people totally adore this latter group, I do not. And if ever I read an article telling me they are beautiful, it annoys me. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, it is personal, not quantifiable and should never be an argument for a journalist to put one above the other. I'll decide that. If he has other arguments, sure, that's what he's for, it is his job. He writes about watches to inform us about the merits of the case, the movement, the accuracy, legibility etc.
Likewise with cars, there are cars that many people would give their eye teeth for which leave me stone cold. Ferrari is but one extreme example of this. I drive a BMW, a model probably unknown to you, the 1-series hatchback. I like it, many don't. It is not a classical beauty but it has a character all its own. Moreover, mine is red. I like red cars. I have seen the 1-series being dismissed by many car journalists on no other ground than being ugly. I beg your pardon? I'll decide. Publications like that have lost me.
So, I'm by no means extreme in my taste but I am outspoken and I simply beg to differ.
