I know the 3940 gets a lot of love, and it is well-deserved. It is beautiful, it is slim, it was Patek's answer to the naysayers who said quartz was going to put an end to mechanical watches... ...But the 3448 is the king. It is so clean and easy to read. Just the perfect way to transmit all of the
I don't like the diamond batons on the Patek. If you had asked about the Patek 5170R, that would be my first choice easily. So slim, so stealth, so clean. The Breguet numerals, the font of the subdials... It's a modern classic.
I love the weight of platinum. The grey sunburst dial is amazing. And I dislike the ring within ring within ring look of the monocounters of the other two. I'd also check out the rose gold/white dial variant. The monocounter and the dial are the same color, which looks best IMHO.
One of the truly classic Pateks, from a time when they cared about keeping case size down. It's incredible how slim and compact this watch is. Even though I don't think I would get much use out of a calendar complication, I keep coming back to this watch, as it's a testament to watchmaking craft, an
I think it's a nice companion for the Lange 1, without being too similar. It has the large date, which is one of Lange's most useful features, but is a simpler and thinner watch. It also has a different movement, the Sax-0-Mat with the micro rotor. I went with the black dial with rose gold case, as
I think this is a more formal Lange, and looks better with a white dial. The Patek is a killer combination of complications. Not only that but the way in which it displays those complications - apertures for the calendar, monocounter for the chronograph - are both fairly novel. To have both in one w
Though I have to admit, in general I think an annual calendar is more useful than a chronograph. The Datograph, especially in rose gold with a black dial, have such an amazing look. And the 1815 Calendar doesn't grab me. It sacrifices the big date function that is iconic, and is especially useful in
... but prefer the price of modern. I like the size of vintage watches, and the design. The 3448 is the perfect layout for a perpetual calendar. Patek should re-introduce it. You don't need to mess with perfection. The 5320 is nice, but doesn't compare to the 3448. Similarly, the 3940 is superior to
