Love this watch

One of the truly classic Pateks, from a time when they cared about keeping case size down. It's incredible how slim and compact this watch is.

Even though I don't think I would get much use out of a calendar complication, I keep coming back to this watch, as it's a testament to watchmaking craft, and straddles the border between vintage and modern perfectly. It's really the only dress watch you need.

How did you decide on platinum? All of the versions are so awesome, it would be hard to choose. Platinum for stealth; yellow gold for that classic look; rose gold for a nice, warm contrast with the dial...

After months of impatiently waiting, I've finally brought this piece home. Here it is with a new pair of custom dark brown straps that in my mind balances against its overall coldness. While I usually gravitate towards independents, I was sold by the argu...

Congrats! One of Patek's most classic perpetual calendars.

Totally under the radar in platinum and with this stealth form factor. Only the knowledgeable few will notice and appreciate this great piece. The ultimate in stealth luxury--just the way I like it. Cheers, John

as it'd be more practical for my daily rotation. The wg has a display caseback which my pt doesn't. But I do enjoy the slight extra weight and the warmness of platinum. So that's the decision for me. Ken

Lovely piece Ken

An iconic Patek. And don't forget that Patek IS an independent, even if we don't always think of it that way!

Great point about Patek being an independent.

Thanks Brandon. Not that being independent is be-all end-all, but this is interesting indeed. Ken

Congratulations!

I have worn a 3940 for many years as my daily watch. I love it! Very much a low- profile, wonderfully enjoyable timepiece.

Congrats on the 3940

Reference Indie collecting, it's all about balance. Don't think one should be pigeon holed into "just a xxxx collector". If the horological properties of a watch is good, it should be considered. I also have a biased slant to Indies, but I still buy brand...

Completely agree with your comment

Thanks for the great reminder, Horo. Balance is key. It seems easier to fall for the romanticism of indies where the watchmakers' heart and soul are laid out in front of you, while it requires more effort to dissect the perceived value of brands' offering...

Congrats, Ken!

In my opinion this is the perfect starting point to establish a collection of Patek. The 3940 is the perfect dress watch for who does not like a time only watch but wants something more, but always maintaining a low profile. This is one of the most classi...

Hi Ken, congrats and this is quite an entry into the "Patek" world!
