Some horological history, a visit to the Zytglogge in Bern

Although we can hardly believe it today, having a clock was once so rare that it was a prestige object for a town to have a tower clock. And all the clocks were “repeaters” so that everyone in the town could hear the time struck on the bells to call then ...

Ahh - much enjoyed!!

Thank you for the time(less) trip through Bern! 😊I have some analog photos of a water clock in Meknes that I need to dig out - 1000+ yrs old. All the best. G.

Thanks Don. There are many clock towers I would like to visit! And this is definitely one of them.

You lost me at the crowing chicken

Don, Thanks for the tour of a complicated clock. I was stuck at the chicken crowing bellows and the pendulum bob being a cannon ball! Regards, MTF
