Zenith

This could be a pathbreaking design...

for its adds an eclectic touch of refined modernity to the current varieties of El Primero watches. It brings a fascinating subtlety, as you pointed out so clearly, in terms of colour hues and very, very delicate dial landscaping. Both are elements which were missing in the Zenith's portfolio, yet are essential evidence for the watchmaking excellence we expect from a traditional manufacture.

This is refinement, newly defined - very, very welcome!

What is also apparent is that Zenith just had to do rather minor modification on the dial - the hands, indices and the case shape are retained from the El Primero 36,000 VPH. This bodes well for further solidification of a recognisable Zenith design language in the long term.

And particularly one without co-branding ;-) Speaking of which, I slowly begin to understand why Zenith used the Range Rover partnership to develop this watch. The market is in a turmoil, and for many brands its difficult to see clearly how they should position themselves. Zenith wanted to try something in a way that would not hurt in case of a failure, thus there came the idea of a LE which could easily be forgotten if needed.

I just hope that the reception of the piece is encouraging!

Best (and thanks Fx for taking the time to put together this excellent review!,
Magnus

P.S.: One real criticism in respect of the dial: its design is technically wrong for the El Primero - does anybody spot the mistake?
