Mixed feelings
I've never quite warmed up to the 2012-present Pilot line (though I do appreciate the epic 5011K, 40mm series, and Ton-Up), but I'll take the "aged" steel over any kind of DLC/PVD type of coating.
The "aged" aspect of the steel seems to be ground into the roughened texture of the metal and designed to look a bit worn-through. That tends to wear well in real life while the PVD coatings always start as solid blankets of black and end badly when scratched...
