This is such an interesting theme...

... with so many different angles to it - let me try to express my own spin to it.
One thought prior to sharing my entry... any watch, that's sitting in a safe or vault, still wrapped in it's protective stickers, happens to be under appreciated by its owner for what it really is: a small mechanical marvel that is meant to be worn, not seen as an investment. Those virgin pieces may see some monetary appreciation, but no passion or love ๐ข
But, in this community of purists, how could any of us under appreciate a watch we own or admire from a distance? So it comes down to what we individually consider to be under appreciated in the recognition of the broader horological world, the market, the buyers, the manufacturers, the dealers.
It will be no surprise to you that I pick a watch from a brand I dearly love for many of their watches, their aesthetics and their attention to detail... Blancpain. A company that despite having played a significant role in the resurrection of the mechanical watch and it's many achievements is still very much under the radar other than for the iconic Fifty Fathoms.
Early 2014 Blancpain introduced two watches featuring a new calibre they had developed, the F385 5Hz Flyback chronograph movement. One of those two watches was the popular Bathyscaphe, the other is the watch I picked for this week's WristScan, the Villeret Pulsometre Chronographe.
With its beautiful grand feu enamel dial and the 43mm rose gold case with beautiful oval chrono pushers the watch was deemed a too large dresswatch, our dear Nico did not like the date (as usual) and so the watch did not get too much attention going forward.
But if you dress this one down, remove the boring dark brown alligator strap, put on a nice Barennia calf strap with contrast stitching, the Pulsometre Chronographe gets free from it's dress watch category and it might be worth a closer look ๐
Have a great weekend everyone!
Cheers
