Does David make his own jewels from scratch, or buy premade?

I like that he uses clear sapphires instead of ruby. From a functional perspective, it's easier to see
when one is oiled, or needs cleaning.

Also easier to restore in the inevitable future, where the jewels wear out. Color matching something
clear, with perhaps the slightest bluish or pinkish hue, is a lot easier than matching a ruby of the
same dimensions to the same hue and depth of color. I've noticed only well made lab grown sapphire
is nearly perfectly clear- most of the natural clear sapphires have a very pale cast of blue or pink to them.
