Vacheron Constantin

My VC Malte Gran Classique dilemma

It's been almost 5 years since I sold this wonderful piece to a fellow collector.  In my mind, it is one of the finest dress watches in terms of looks that I've come across.  Of course, I  tend to like pieces that are unique, ocassionally pushing the design envelope and have a strong visual presence.  The MGC certainly fits that bill.  Unfortunately, it is a mere 36mm and in this day of 45mm wrist clocks, that is tiny, albeit appropriate for a dress watch.  Now, I've been watch collecting for many years and given 5 minutes with just about any timepiece, I can tell you exactly what I love about it and vice versa.  The 1400 movement in this watch is too small, or maybe too "exposed" for my taste.  Having a filler ring just brings tears to my eyes.  Of course, once I can get past those two "small items," there is so much to love about this watch and it's wrist presence.

That brings me to my dilemma, this wonderful fellow collector has offered to sell the watch back to me.  I know it would look great in my collection.  However, I know it will get close to zero wrist time.  Should I pass or should I "restock?"

Thanks for your thoughts,

Larry
