Hello, I am in possession of an interesting old watch marked Vacheron Constantin and am trying to determine authenticity. I have contacted the company, but thought I would ask for your thoughts.

That engraving does not look legitimate. It’s crude and seems unlikely to have been done by VC.
Not a specialist, but I also have serious doubts on it,
it looks to poor made in matter of engravings and finishing
Depending on the country "clothes make the man" or in French "clothes do not make a monk" but...
...in any case (litterally) this piece could not be considered as a VC even if the caliber would be original VC which I doubt... At the very best a watch housing a VC movement if it would be original... if it is... My 2 cents
I think this authentic, french work, may be Paris - the often used V&C in expensiv and high quality jewelery. This was expensiv, all parts expensiv and well done.
I think this special order from the asiatic market. It is a very nice piece from a great artist. This was not a faker. Also you can see the influence of ART DECO, this is matching with the movement and I will date this around 1920 - 1930. For me it looks ...
Have you emailed VC and asked for their input, they have the serial number and case matching information which would help a lot, if the serial number on the movement and case number on the
case don't match it won't spit out a year of manufacturing. My next step would be to inspect and see if the individual on the dial still sells items and if they have records of this item, if both these match then you know it is legitimate.

I am looking forward to hearing back from them on the serial number. The number dates it to 1905-1915 if it is authentic. I agree with other responders that the etching looks "crude" but I did find other examples online from that era and the etching match...
