Terrific post, Nicolas. I came close to the WG Sonata Silicium a few years back.
It is my favorite version of the watch thanks to its ultra unique dial. Mesmerizing, and highly appropriate on such a design. Mo's red hands are stunning; I might have a preference for the standard set with the yellow indicator.
I believe your model with its "simple" dial would be my second choice, or perhaps a co-choice. It is the only variation which emphasizes the special dial construction, as the monochrome background does not intersect across the center like the colored layer on the other models. So it is a different look, and one I quite enjoy.
My reason for passing was to save for a Freak. That is still my plan, but perhaps a pre-owned Sonata will find its way to me one day.

So many fascinating elements, starting with the playful hands, the unique and wonderfully sounding alarm, the combination of complications... Love yours and Mo\'s is definitely special in another way Some day - or put differently, the Sonata in one shape ...
Now that's what I'm talking about. Great review and magnificent pics. I agree that Mo's watch is stunning. Had I not had mine and it's ties to Rolf maybe I would go for that instead but no.
I had the original Sonata and changed to to the cathedral because there was a definite change in the quality and loudness of the alarm. I wonder if the difference that you noted between your Sonata and the silicium was more a function of the design change...
I don't know. I found the silicium to be more crystalline while the solid case back version was sweeter. I will have to compare...
With several cathedral and cathedral silicium to be sure, of course. As for the HW, good luck to find one... But it will be interesting to compare both of them on their acoustical virtues. Best, Mitch. Nicolas
Did due diligence and read up about Z6. Hands down the sonata has got it over it. Case size about same. No countdown feature. The GMT function is way better in the sonata. Sonata chimes
longer. There are more parts to sonata (>400 vs 340 ish). Ans the Z6 has 45 jewels while the sonata has about 104. The dial of the sonata is way more legible and makes better sense. So objectively there is no question that the sonata is the superior piece...
I am still curious to compare the way they sound. I know the Sonata by heart.
But I would love to hear the HW Z6 sound. Best, Nicolas
