Apparently things have become advanced enough to present first working prototypes, so maybe we will see something interesting shown in Basel this year. A surface treatment as you suggested has been certainly considered, or is even part of the current package.

But could you explain in words simple enough for an absolute layman, what this surface treatment would change? Does it add any elasticity?
