Watch post

According to the watch serial number you have provided, it is a Maxi Marine Chronometer 41 mm, and not an 1846.

The tube you refer to is screwed into the lug on one side to hold the tube in place, and to complete the look a srcew is used on the other side which screws into the tube, so the tube is separate from the watch and is replaceable.  The shaft of the screw is very very thin and I would guess very easily breakable.  I removed the tube once to replace a strap and said to myself "I shouldn't do this too often for fear of breaking that screw".  If the screw threads of the tube that connect to the lug and damaged, then you would probably need a new case.

I'm sorry to welcome you here in such sad circumstances. May you post some pics of the damages, as it will be easier for us to give you an answer. BUT, if it is only the bar ( between the lugs ) which is broken, it will not be a too serious problem. Looki...

Hello Nicolas, Thanks for replying so quickly. The watch is with the dealer, but I find it really odd that it has been screwed in on one side, and may be worn (without the screw on the other lug). This would indacate to me that the tube is actually a part...

You are absoutley correct. If I understand what you are saying the tube is replacable as long as the threads on the case that the tube screws into are not damaged. I am almost certain this is the situation. Now I just have to find out why it is taking so ...

the responsibility for any damage lies with the watchmaker

if he screwed it up then he should fix it even if it means buying a new case or complete watch. when we send a watch for repair/service or other works we entrust it into their care and they should care for it in the same way we would or if it were there o...

Hello, The watchmaker has said he will pay for the piece. The case does not need to be replaced and yes a gentle reminder is in order. I have ordered parts before from the same watchmaker and I think he waits until he has a large enough order to submit it...
