Ulysse Nardin

Dave G's chronometer

I'm very impressed by how well preserved your chronometer is.  Ray Bates, the past president of the BHI, probably will restore mine.  He told me that he usually has a 9 month lead time which is typical since so few people work on them, now.  I have thought about sending it back to U.N.  I'm sure that they will do a fantastic job since these chronometers are part of their heritage.  The main issue that I have is that the auction house left the gimbel attached to the bowl.  I'll need special help to remove it.  Not sure if U.N. could do that while I'm sure Mr. Bates can walk me through it or advise me how to pack it so that it won't be damaged.  I wouldn't run it at all if it hasn't been cleared and oiled recently.  I don't plan on running this one very often, either.  I have a 1970s model Thomas Mercer chronometer that run once and a while.  But Nardin's are special and rare.  It is like my baby lol.
