“ a medication against horological fatigue”
Jul 23, 2021,12:49 PM
This sums it up for me.
As I’ve said a few times before, on the first few passes I don’t think I saw the beauty in this watch. But, increasingly my eye is coming to see a watch that gives us exactly what you said which is a much needed “medication against horological fatigue”.
This aspect has become more and more important for two reasons in my opinion.
First because as we age as collectors and therefore have seen so much (or everything) little is truly new. And second because of the change in the landscape these last several years where we see 1) more and more new releases which don’t really bring anything or much new to the table, and those that might are drowned out by the sheer velocity of new launches and 2) the increasing uniformity of taste and focus on a narrow range of watches which means we often see or are exposed to the same watches again and again.
My last point above, this is not to discredit any of these watches or the collectors and enthusiasts owning them. Many of these watches deserve attention and several have been classics of design for years and years.
