Well, we were trying to find ...
rugs from Baotou and that was not a big success. ... Lot´s of soldiers with heavily worn uniforms, (golden) Rolex watches on their wrists, drinking lots of Whisky, in the "best" hotels ... The first night in a hotel next to a gas refinery was something I will never forget - unexpected "fire dragons" next to our bed.
The heaviest part was to go back to Bejing, because we changed our schedule and wanted to go earlier ...
But we haven´t seen a lot of the countryside, because we came in by plane and took the night train back.
Would I try it again? Yes

In the 'old' days, people cobbled together what they had...
...available. Not like today when the technology has been so perfected that you get massive power from a bike that weighs nothing- and many companies producing great (and reliable) bikes. The Japanese changed the industry.
Sadly....
...the weight is back (to a degree) with the shift to 4-strokes for motocross bikes. Not to mention that they require intensive and expensive top end rebuilds, rebuilds that take 30 minutes on a CR250 stroker...but they are nice and smooth to ride.
