firstly, thanks folks.

we're going big time on the new setup. hardwired,
battery back up. 1 in cellar, 1 in hall, 1 top of stairs and a heat detector in
kitchen all interlinked with sound detection so when 1 goes off they all go
off.

after 4 years with ney a sound, we'll end up with
with earsplitting noise every 10 minutes :)

apparently our carbon monoxide detector installed
in kitchen for the gas hobs should be in the main living room where the open
fire is as that robs far more oxygen our of aire than 5 lpg bottled gas
hobs.

amazing what you learn after the fact.

'luckily' the loss adjusters have written off
nearly 100 bottles of fine red wine and port which i wont replace en mass so
i'll be able to pay for the upgrades. they are also leaving the wine in garden
so it 'might' still be drinkable(i dont think). testing starts next week, all
welcome!!

i could give it to the bottle stalls for
the local Womens Institute of course.

at the end of the day no one was hurt which is the
perfect end result, but it is a pain when lovely stainless steel strips
bordering the tiles and the extractor chimney have started to rust due to the
acidic affect of the smoke. only fitted in the last month, all tiles need
regrouting as its all brand new. if it had happened 6 weeks ago we would have
got a new kitchen but now we're having loads of remedial work done on my wifes
lifelong dream. she's taking it far better than i am as i was retired through
PTSD after injury and dont cope well with changing environment(if you know what
i mean).

Anthony Phillips ex-genesis produced an album
called 'wise after the event' and i know exactly what he means.

thanks again everyone

Graham

First, glad to hear that there were no injuries. If you have a nomadic VOIP line and/or have moved house recently (e-billing follows you automatically) then do make sure that your service provider has up to date address details so that emergency services ...

be sorted very quickly. very pleased with uor battery operated smoke alarms which were given and fitted free by the local fire service, but will be upgrading too hard wired versions that also recognise the sound of the others going off and activate. highe...

the "test" isnt really a "smoke test"; it is merely a batt. test! And if you install hard wired smoke sensors, Graham, use sensors that have a battery backup system installed. Great to read that no personal harm was done! Cheers, Edwin

Wow, Graham
