Evening ramblings

If I may presume, many if not most of us here, are patrons of the arts in our very own way.

We look at our collection as not merely of horological instruments, but pieces of magnificent engineering and works of art. Some, more exquisite and elaborate than others, but nonetheless, marvels! Particular examples I’d like to highlight, are these beautifully hand crafted dials from GP, debuted during the Chamber of Wonders (BaselWorld 2015).

The above fine examples brings me to the topic I’m writing today - what other works of art does our Purists collect, other than the obvious, and that of my own interests - pre sixteenth century cartography.

Being half Makassarese, I grew up with stories of nautical exploration. Experiences of my late father, his father and the seafaring men before them, where tales were told from one generation to another. I’m guessing, this was the reason of my interest - an extension of those stories. Somewhat like House of Dragons, the prequel to Games of Thrones!

Having these vintage maps in my hands, I feel that I am travelling through time, through their eyes! Reliving the tales...

Thank you for the reference and photo Nico 😊 That divider hands is so apt for the whole concept of the watch! Being new to this, I am still finding my way to a more mature watch collection. Perhaps I’ve found a peek hole to what lies ahead!? Your thoughts...

Magnificent Nico [nt]
