A few pictures of a Japanese Puppet Show

A few days ago, I was invited by Cartier to attend a Japanese Puppet Show (bunraku theater) at the Fondation Cartier in Paris.

It was for me a big premiere since I had never seen such type of show previously.

The show was organized around three scenes, one of them being the suicide of two lovers on a bridge. Despite this sad topic, it was a very moving and entertaining show in which I could appreciate the dexterity of the puppet masters.

Kanjuro Kiritake III is handling his puppet:

The puppet is playing a string instrument. We had the feeling that the notes played by the musicians were actually coming from the puppet's instrument since the puppet was perfectly following them.

At the end of the show, I could visit an exhibition of pictures taken by Daido Morihama in Tokyo:

I would like to thank a lot Cartier for the invitation and this fantastic journey into a different culture.
