Warm Winter Weather + Wilderness + Walk

It's winter, and we did see some animals, plants and weather. But it’s in the city of San Diego, it’s warm enough to forego a heavy coat, and we simply strolled around noting items of interest. I’ll give them to you in sequence just as we encountered them.

Our first surprise stepping out of the car was the mushrooms eagerly bursting through the soil and lawns! A very rare sight in our semi-desert climate.

I glanced across the street and saw this lovely Studebaker pickup (roughly 1940), which determined the direction of our walk. We turned East.

Things were simpler then.

My wife started to notice the Christmas decorations and thought these homeowners had covered the last 3 months of the year with one simple display,

while the neighbors kicked things up a few notches with Nutcrackers, wreath, lights, etc.

We walked on a few blocks until I heard a familiar chirping, and after a few minutes was able to spot the source, high in a flimsy tree.

MY wife spotted another one, but I just couldn’t see it no matter how she pointed.

Until he chirped, and I zeroed in on him.

Birds of Paradise

This fella was well hidden in a magnolia tree, but still visible to my camera.

These lads were confidently heading out for some fish,

whereas I was having great luck with my hummingbird watching.

Man’s best friend. I can imagine that this chap’s wife has passed away, and he’s taking their little guy out for a memorial walk.

Or perhaps the wife is one of these yoga ladies.

Serious boats were seen under the channel bridge,

while more ladies are walking over or riding down it.

I was being strafed by scores of tiny, fast-as-a-bullet tiny birds. I have no idea what they are but the camera caught them as they zoomed overhead.

This one sat like a king on his high throne and watched all the little ones. I noted a slight expression of disapproval on his face.

We walked past the USS Recruit,

a 2/3 scale ship created for training sailors.

We spotted an unusual face in a crowd of cars…

What do you think this is?

A Lyric? Classy electric station wagon? What market segment does this satisfy?

And what car is wearing this headlight?

A small forest of Rosemary was incredibly fragrant. Mrs C dug up a small plant to bring home.

While waiting, I found another mushroom patch,

And took a picture of my watch. This is a Jorg Hysek automatic with a tiny round movement inside.

A fire engine came lights and siren down the street, looking for a person who was sadly having medical issues (however, it is Friday the Thirteenth).

Thanks for strolling with us!
