It looked like a beautiful day was on its way

When we opened the windows at 6:30am... my wife tossed me the camera and I went out barefoot because these sights just don't last:

We quickly dressed and headed Northward to Escondido ("Hidden") where we tried and failed to get into a store having a special sale. No problem!

We went for a walk instead at Dixon Lake, a reservoir for drinking water at about 1100 ft elevation, thus up in the foothills above Escondido.

How can you beat this? And they even gave us a free day pass as we convinced them we are "senior citizens".

I almost wish I was a fisherman on a day like this...

If you drive or hike up to the top of the valley around the lake and look down, it's all urban sprawl. Not dense like Los Angeles, but on the edge of country-rural turning into densely-populated.

Up here though, all that congestion is forgotten.

It was so quiet.

The picnic and day use areas were very nice, especially on an 80Β°F Wednesday in October.

No one is using the paddle boats, and the birds are doing what kids would do -- happily splashing and honking at each other.

Squirrels were relaxed and not bothered by our presence,

same for the 4 different lizards we spotted.

We watched for snakes, but couldn't find any, sorry.

The gates were open so we could drive all the way around the eastern end of the lake in our truck, but you guys with Porsche 911s and Alpines better not risk it.
And I wouldn't do it midday when it's already pretty hot and the shade is full of poison ivy and stuff.

At a fork in the road we had to make a decision; which way?  As you can see, I voted for Whisker Bay and I knew my watch would be safe from any stray magnetic fields that might be lurking there.

Whisker Bay was only a half-mile but they implied it was pretty remote. I was expecting it to be like one of those Star Trek planets, where no man has ever gone before!

However, it's not as remote as the ranger suggested ...

Normally reached by boat.

These bushes look green but are topped with tiny white flowers. We could smell the aroma 10-20 feet away, and no doubt the bees can smell a mile away.

We left the lake and headed for home, just noticing this sign as we left the park:

They failed to mention "Bring your beautiful old car out for a gentle drive in the sun (but stay off the rough bits)"

Since we were out, we did some more shopping on the way home.

But we couldn't decide whether to buy Patek (black truffle)

or Vacheron (Tsar Caviar) so we went to another shop (Mexican Panaderia / bakery)

and were faced with more choices. We had to decide between Seiko,

Casio,

or Citizen.

You'll have to guess what we decided to buy.

Cheers,

Cazalea
