New Grand Seiko SBGJ237 love

Dec 27, 2020,18:32 PM

Hi all. Long time lurker first time poster from Down Under.

Greetings all. I have got a lot out of this forum and site over the last two years, so wanted to give back.

I bought this from the Melbourne Seiko Boutique on 26/12. I adore this watch and have lusted after it since it was announced. COVID and travel restrictions/lockdowns meant I couldn’t get to Melbourne ‘til now, and even then it was touch and go given increasing case numbers in Australia. To boot, there are only 2 places in Australia where this watch is available - and one of those cities (Sydney) is essentially inaccessible given the quarantine requirements when you leave. There are also only 2 of these for sale in Australian boutiques (one now!)

The bezel colour changes, and the finishing especially of the hour indicators are insane. I have not felt this way about a watch since I bought my Lange (second gen Saxonia). Both have the (personal) wow factor, and both have provided a rare example of literally taking your breath away.  I must say also the bracelet is fantastic. I know there have been issues and concerns/disquiet in the past on GS efforts on this, but the bracelet feels and looks great. The screws are absurdly tight though!! The watch is a bit “blingy”, in part due to the brilliance of the finishes, and the GS design, which I believe was in part inspired by gemstones. But if you accept it for what it is, rather than wishing it was something it’s not - it’s awesome. In my experience, every watch has had minor compromises, often that are outweighed by what you love about the watch.

This is a big watch. I usually wear a 16710 coke. And even down to PP 3796R. The Saxonia is 34mm wide. This monster is 44.2mm diameter and 50mm lug to lug. It’s also 14.4mm thick. I have 16cm wrists...but still no lug overhang. Just getting the bracelet and micro adjustment dialled in is essential. It’s interesting how after 48hrs so of wearing it actually feels quite normal now, I guess you grow used to it.  I’ve tried to provide some photos for illustrative purposes. I removed 4 links in total. 1 full link and three “half” links...which are more like three-fifths links. LOL.

First post, apologies if I have made any protocol or decorum errors.

Very refreshing color combo for one of my favorite GS partly because of the lumed bezel, enjoy it in good health!

Really nice GS! Enjoy.

Amazing photos. Really shows the blue/white and black/white this watch can change into!
