Love and Fatherhood

Today is the last day of my parental leave after the birth of my second son. Although I’ve used the time to bond with him, I’ve also spent more uninterrupted time with my first son than I ever have before, and the result is loving appreciation. Loving appreciation for the tireless dedication my wife commits to taking care of our boys. Loving appreciation for the ‘village’ it takes to raise a child. But most of all, loving appreciation for my beautiful, funny, genius, cuddly, perfect boy. He’s gone off on the adventure that is the first day of school, he got his first mechanical watch (a vintage ladies Seiko diver), he now knows how to gently kiss his baby brother on the cheek, he’s learned how much he loves broccoli, and he’s given me joy and gratification that only he can grant me. Going back to work will change my schedule, but it won’t change my fatherhood. I love you, Big Boy, and I always will.
