Yes, my first Seiko turned up today.
No surprise for most of you with this model, but a novelty for me with lots of firsts: First Seiko, first mechanical japanese watch, first screw down crown, first rotating inner bezel, first green dial and first "gold" item ever.
I am pleasantly surprised by the watch: feels good, looks good, works well.
The automatic movement makes a noise rather similar to the ETA 2892 movement, and the quality is similar to Longines. I had one Longines in the past, from the Master Collection and it seems of the same standard. The big bonus is the 20bar WR with clearly beats the Longines 5bar one.
I have always been keen on this very model, the mix of steel, gold and green is rather unusual but works.
I consider it as my classy go-anywhere watch.
I really like the two websites making a great tribute to the Alpinist: seiko story and the ultimate guide (mentioned here not long ago). I wished this one had the red Alpinist on the dial but nevermind.
For Seiko, I have been looking at the divers watch but despite many attractive ones, I never found the one. Some Presage are very nice (the one with the red "12"). Grand Seiko (without a date) and Credor are stunning but another league.
Any other Alpinist around here?
I hope you like my season photos.
Best,
E.
