Try reversing the strap with the long end attached at 12.
I wear my straps this way and enjoy seeing the tail peeking at me on the inside of my wrist. And, it's not so noticeable to others.
In addition, I think the fit is better (on my wrist at least) as the watch sits more centered on my wrist.
Just something easy to experiment with before cutting the strap.

I agree about the tail being annoying.
Did you consider the rubber B straps? Apparently, they can incorporate the folding clasp that comes with the watch, so there is no tail issue. That’s what their website portrays, but I have no personal experience with them
