Pre 2016 214270 and 2016 214270 comparison
pre-2016 version

2016 improved version

I owned the Rolex Explorer I in 2013, at first I do not mind the hours and minute hands a bit smaller and shorter, however, it seem both hands fitted the 36mm Explorer better aesthetically. And also the 3-6-9 without lume which could be hard to read the time in the dark. When Rolex updated the Explorer I in 2016 I believe at most Rolex lovers said, it had perfected the Explorer I. So I trade the pre- 2016 one for the improved version. And I must say I make the right choice. The dial is much more balanced with the longer minute hand and the larger hour hands. And the lume on the 3-6-9 makes reading the time with my weak eye sight much easier.
