No material between the case and wrist. The strap is from Nick Mankey Design LLC. The version I have is for watches with fixed spring bars. The difference is the hook piece has a slice in the center to allow the strap to be attached after passing through ... 

I have a FXD also, looking for straps other than the ones that came with the watch. How do you find the Nick Mankey?
