The ads really show how consistent the Rolex message has been across the decades. It’s obviously a great advertising idea – linking your watch with human achievement – and one that has been well copied.
True or not, I still love the following lines:
“Maybe now you understand why it takes over a year to make each Rolex.”
“The crown works exactly like a submarine hatch.”
“The case is … sculptured from a solid block of metal, using an immense amount of pressure.”
“… for divers a reliable watch can mean life or death.”

Ps. thanks for going to the effort of posting these very interesting adverts. You saved me because just the week before you posted I visited my parents and went looking for my old National Geographic magazines from the 1970’s which I thought were still in the garage. They had unfortunately gotten wet at some stage and were discarded.
