First pictures. Limited edition of 5 pieces. Tourbillon, split second chrono, reworked RM008. Crystal case. Got to give it to the man! Richard scores again! Unbelievable watch. Truly a ghost as you may not ever see it again! Andrew H This message has been...
Richard Mille booth for the whole day and anyone who saw the watch was wowed. No joke and not just saying that - it was one of the stars, if not THE star of SIHH 2012. However, with only 5 in existence, it will be difficult to pull off a sighting. I might...
but I think that I prefer the work on metal materials more than saphire for a case box. I'll be curious to have a look at it but not very attracted by it. Thanks for the live pics ! Best, Mark
but I must say I am not a fan at all... It reminds me of certain Swatch models with their transparent cases ... I admit there is more to admire in a RM008 movement than a cheap quartz movement, but I quite don't get the spirit behind it: a crystal case is...
does push boundaries in what is possible. Remember that these are curved surfaces here with the tolerance and precision that is required to use sapphire crystal under such conditions. True, this is not a watch to wear playing sport, rock climbing, or any ...
Reflecting on my earlier comment and yours, Andrew, I believe this has to be called a true masterpiece, in the old meaning of the word: "une piece de maitrise" as we say in French, which is a piece the craftsmen would do, typically at the end of their stu...
It's thinking outside of the box. True innovators are never bound by practicality and convention nor are they discouraged by setbacks....and I'm certain that there were more than a few with the production of this watch. I can imagine the person out there ...
The RM008 is already a legend imho, this is a nice hommage to the "Grande Complication" of Richard Mille. What means "crystal" here ? "Sapphire" like the one used in some watches bridges ? cheers Francois
I will take it as an hommage... To be honest I am not convinced even if it is a complicated watch to make and assemble. There is few thing really new there. It doesn't blow my mind as the firs RM008 did, or the RM027 "Nadal" or the RM009. This is just my ...
europe can sell a lot more than a watch and the chinese can buy much more than europe. is that the kind of comment you were trying to entice with your remark?
and continues to show RM's dedication to pushing the boundaries way beyond anything gone before (I know MB&F have done a similar thing) but a 3 piece, curved in 3 dimentions case...pinch me..!! Unfortunately as you said it will literally be a ghost as it ...
And RM watches demonstrate this with faultless execution. I love their watches and this one is very striking but it's not for me as it looks like a toy.
Obviously not designed to be worn, more a demonstration of technical ability I guess. I wonder who made the case. 1.65 million dollars, or francs perhaps. Quite a lot. I imagine the act of buying one of these will erase about a million of those dollars. A...
...and it's certainly one of those watches that shows RM's prowess in materials, but it looks plasticky in pictures. This is a watch that can only be appreciated in real life, I imagine. Kudos on the workmanship, even if the overall aesthetic doesn't pres...
... the masterpiece movie "The Ghost in the Shell" which of course inspired the directors of "Matrix".... Anyway, I see it rather full of techy than a form of art. Looks like "I, Robot" and such Sci-Fi stuff. Have to see to really appreciate the achieveme...
highlight the context. You either love it or hate it. The "ghost in the machine" comes from a British philosopher Gilbert Ryle's description of René Descartes' mind-body dualism. and from Arthur Koestler's book The Ghost in the Machine. One of Koestlers b...
Didn't know about those two. Perhaps the English subtitle "Ghost in the Shell" of the movie I mentioned came from either of them. Anyhow, I agree with your description about the torn-apart inside of the human, particularly about this hobby No one, who is ...
Put me down for one of the 5 pieces .... I wish! Too bad I didn't win the Mega Millions $200+ million jackpot a few weeks ago - AT This message has been edited by AnthonyTsai on 2012-01-16 21:44:24...
This is very strange, impractical, etc. There is no objective good reason to owning this watch, it's probably even fragile to wear. But I like it! It's wonderfully different. Great job Monsieur Mille! Truly a piece of art!
I am very very rich so I could easily afford this watch but I think it will scratch very easily because I also wear a 3 carat diamond ring on each finger, since I am so rich. I also wear diamond earrings so I am afraid I might accidently scratch this sapp...
and no one here begrudges you that - if it makes you happy and that is what you choose to spend your wealth on, then great! However, on PuristsPro we like to keep a lower tone about the extent of our wealth and concentrate the discussion on the watches. I...
far from frivilous - it is a remarkable piece. Generally I try to see a watch before passing judgement on whether I like or not. Not always possible, but I try. Everyone I witnessed looking at the watch was one of awe, not of contempt. Thanks! Andrew H
to create a case out of sapphire. I actually designed the 1st one for a brand and it was a total nightmare to manufacture! I think the concept is awesome though the potential fragility of this beast is particularly concerning because of its cost. However,...
Obviously, there is a limit to what you can reveal, but is it possible for you to relate some of the challenges in manufature of such a case? Is it a forming issue? Achieving tolerances for snug case fit? Brittleness when screwing together?
Gentleman The RM is a piece of art..................Damien Hirst of the Horology world , However , Mr Calabrese ( The Phantom ) ,has been doing this when i was still in diapers ;-) and he is deserving of some pioneering praise.
I for one would love to learn. What I know of the Richard Mille case is the following. As tom3 points out, there is an added complexity here in that the RM case is both curved, to very tight tolerances, and also machined and polished in 3 parts. See here ...
watch I designed though it was still quite cool if I may say so my self! Ours was easier to create because we had (a) a small steel case back and (b) a mouvment ring we hid via frosted case sides. The nightmare for us was the machining of the crystal and ...
