PIAGET -- You're Once...Twice...Three Times a Polo... Question

I recently caught the polo bug.....not the Piaget Polo watches but the game itself.  Truly, the Game of Kings and the King of Games!  I must declare clearly that I am a 'Watcher' and not a 'Playa' smile

I never ride anything with four legs and also smarter than me!

Although the title of this posting implies PIAGET involvement with at least three polo tournaments this year, there have been more. These are only the last three events.......

PIAGET POLO HAMPTONS CUP

It was a memorable second week at the Bridgehampton Polo series where PIAGET served as the official title sponsor for the Piaget Polo Hamptons Cup. The firm has had a long history with the sport of polo and 2009 marks the 30th anniversary of the legendary Piaget Polo timepiece. Larry Boland, President of Piaget North America, tossed out the first ball of the match (a custom-designed Piaget polo ball) and teams White Birch and Heathcote immediately went head to head, battling it out for the grand prize, with White Birch emerging victorious. Following the match, Boland presented the winning White Birch team with special Piaget trophies.

Inside the VIP tent, Piaget showcased its newest model, the Piaget Polo FortyFive to an audience of the Hamptons' best and brightest. “We are thrilled to be back for a second year in a row at Bridgehampton Polo,” stated Boland. “This is one of the world’s leading polo tournaments and a great place to connect with fellow fans of the sport.”

The Piaget Polo Hamptons Cup follows on the heels of the firm’s participation in the Veuve Clicquot Manhattan Polo Classic and Piaget Gold Cup in Palm Beach.

PIAGET GREENWICH CUP

In September, PIAGET proudly hosted the Piaget Greenwich Cup in Connecticut, also know as the Piaget Fall Classic

Everybody wins in polo; even the ponies.  This was the Best Playing Pony at Greenwich.  I wonder if they have non-playing ponies and do they win prizes?  smile

PIAGET are big on tents at their polo tournaments.

PIAGET TAKES THE FIELD AT TORTUGAS, BUENOS AIRES  --  Sept 24th.

Continuing a partnership with polo that developed over thirty years ago, Piaget has successfully returned to the world capital of polo with its co-sponsorship of its victorious Pilara Piaget’ polo team in the first of the game’s Triple Crown events, the Tortugas Open in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Scoring an opening round 14-12 win over Indios Chapaleufu II, the 37-goal team of Agustin Merlos, Santiago Chavanne, Sebastian Merlos and Piaget “ambassador” Marcos Heguy will once again represent the 135 year old Piaget tradition of teamwork and excellence that began in the Swiss village of La-Cote-aux-Fees in 1874.

Pilara Piaget  vs. Indios Chapaleufu II

“Polo demands the same level of skill that Piaget employs in creating fine watches,” said Mr Philippe Léopold-Metzger, CEO,  “and it’s a team effort, as is our watchmaking.”

The other aspect of the sport is that it embraces a luxury lifestyle. This growing audience was just the market Piaget was looking for, and in 1979 the sport was honored with the creation of the Piaget Polo, one of the company’s flagship watches. Piaget began by sponsoring a high-goal team at Palm Beach Polo and Country Club whose success was followed by its sponsorship of the prestigious World Cup, the highest rated tournament in North America, the Piaget Gold Cup and a celebrity team of players called “Chukkers for Charity” who toured the country playing benefit matches for local or area charities.

Partnering with Pilara , a luxury residential development in Argentina that features polo, Piaget continues its tradition on the field, coordinating its efforts with 30th Anniversary of its Piaget Polo by launching the Piaget Polo Forty Five, a new sporty-looking model crafted from titanium. The new line has prompted Piaget to once again step to the forefront of polo sponsorship from its co-sponsorship of the recent Manhattan Polo Classic on Governor’s Island that featured HRH Prince Harry to the Piaget Fall Classic in Greenwich and the Piaget Hampton Cup in Bridgehampton.

Although the company has gone through subtle changes over the years, Yves.G Piaget is proud of the fact that the firm has retained its own traditional character and philosophy of production and marketing that set it as far apart from its rivals as polo is from stickball. The Piaget team, driven by the powerful 10-goal player Heguy , also calls on the talents of another 10-goaler in Agustin Merlos and his brother, former 10-goaler Sebastian Merlos. Eight-goaler Santiago Chavanne rounds out the 37-goal (out of a maximum possible of 40-goals) team that will participate in all three legs of the Argentine Triple Crown of polo.

Thanks for checking in.   I'm glad I did because it's been puzzling for years, why the team is called Pilara Piaget Polo Team; now we know!

Would forum readers be willing to play polo and what watch would you wear? Remember closing speeds of 40mph!
