Wild Kingdom

I decided to take pictures of pine flowers - you know, those things that turn into Pine Cones eventually. Here's what they look like when our tree is 'blooming' and showering us with pollen:

then I spotted a familiar silhouette in the viewfinder!

By slowly changing my position I was able to get a clear look at this young hawk.

He was in deep shade, invisible from most angles, but able to keep his eye on potential prey while grooming his feathers.

Eventually he spotted something and flew off.

I checked on the mother hummingbird down the side yard and found she is sitting faithfully on her two eggs.

Finally I noticed some curious light playing on the underside of my neighbor's tree.
With just the right angle of the sun, light bounces off her reflecting pond up into the trees, so they are lit from above and below at the same time.

That's all for today, thanks for your viewing and encouragement, helping me understand photography better.

... I am assuming another morning series ; ) Pollen is a big problem for many here... the 'pollen forecast' is even reported on the evening news... gives you an idea of how much greenery surrounds Tokyo. That first silhouette of the young hawk is very nic...

Due to sun angle I haven’t seen that reflection of light in the trees in the am. Mike

Really nice pictures, especially of the birds

These shots take work, patience, the right lens, and a good eye.
