For the most part I believe that the metro and private line trains in the Tokyo area are still "controlled" by synchronized pocket watches... at least you can see the conductor carrying said watch (maybe as a backup).

They don't...
but they come remarkably close. I don't live in Switzerland, but I do visit several times each year, and love the trains. I have an annual half-fare pass, which are great value, and never tire of traveling on Swiss trains. Cheers, Tony C.
