Macro photography gear

Feb 20, 2019,09:49 AM

Frankly, I am envious of some of the macro photographs I am seeing on this site.

I am posting some photos taken with my current rudimentary gear, that I am considering to step up a bit.
I a seeking advice on format, camera and lens and I would truly be grateful to the cuasi-pros or pros, or anyone willing to advise in this community.
My half-hearted apologies in advance for yet another gear thread.
Best.
Benjamin

I don't know if it is old age or professional deformation, but not being able to get the texture at high magnification is driving me nuts. There are some breathtaking photos on the Hasselblad website, but there must be a less expensive way to show what th...

No expert, but started to dabble in macro work.... [nt]

Currently using Leica TL2 body with 60mm/2.8 macro lens. I just received the lens other day and love it. I can't stop shooting, lol. 🍻 ...

Are you able to get sharp macro photos?

Thank you, drg

Having an opinion from a user really simplifies matters and helps quite a lot. Again, many thanks. Benjamin

I have been looking exactly at that lens

Built for the T camera and relatively affordable. It seems that if you use this lens on the SL full-frame sensor, the camera switches automatically to APS-C mode, so I am pondering if it is worth going to the M (with the 90 mm + macro adapter) or the SL s...

I am getting a very clear picture of where I should be looking. Thank you!

I've used the SL and the M.

Presently I decided on the M as it is smaller and lighter. And the macro adapter is a great tool. But if size doesn't matter the SL is an incredible camera and the 60mmTL will work wonders. Cost-wise you are probably in the same ballpark.

Thanks DruidPadj

Right now I am using a Canon system that is not as good as the TL2, but still ok. I really am looking at full-frame. I was not clear what it meant on the Leica website that the SL camera "switches automatically to APS-C mode." My doubt was whether the 60m...

includes a tripod or similar support, a camera with live-view is very useful, a lighting solution, and (recommended by many) a long focal length macro lens... also helpful to avoid camera shake is a remote (cable) shutter release. The long focal length al...

Very sharp to detect that the subject is the stand !!! At present I make do with the timer function and of course the tripod. But you are right that my current 60 mm macro lens forces me to get uncomfortably close to the subject. I appreciate your advice....

All excellent points by Casey.

I would add, you can also use the camera’s self timer to avoid vibration as well. The 2 shots I posted in this thread, were hand held shots at a faster shutter speeds, under ambient light. 🍻

Thank you drg

I have my eyes set on Leica. I am sure can find use for both cameras. Excellent shots on your TL2. Your Patek is phenomenal!! Best. Benjamin
